Wyoming Assisted Living Information

Wyoming defines an assisted living facility as a facility that provides a home-like environment for people not related to the owner who need room, board and personal care, excluding rehabilitative care.

Wyoming Assisted Living Facilities Scope of Care

In Wyoming, an assisted living facility must provide: · Assistance with transportation; · Assistance with obtaining medical, dental, and optometric care; · Assistance in adjusting to group activities; · Partial assistance with personal care; · Limited assistance with dressing; · Minor non-sterile dressing changes; · Stage I skin care; · Infrequent assistance with mobility; · Cueing; · Limited care to residents with incontinence and catheters (if the resident can care for his/her condition independently); and · 24-hour supervision of each resident.

Wyoming Assisted Living Admission Requirements

A resident can not become or stay as a resident if he or she is a danger to themselves or others, has needs the facility cannot meet, or cannot pay for the services provided.

Wyoming Assisted Living Care Plan Requirements

All new residents must have a functional assessment completed when admitted, annually, and every time there is a change in the resident’s needs. The assessments are used to determine a resident’s service care plan.

Wyoming Assisted Living Medication Management Requirements

Residents may either be responsible for their own medication, or they may receive reminders, or have the staff watch or remove the caps to their medication.

Wyoming Assisted Living Facility Requirements

No more than two residents can live in a unit, and each single unit must offer no less than 100 square feet of living space, while double-occupancy units must provide at least 80 square feet. One toilet and sink must be provided for every two residents and one bathing unit must be provided for every 10 residents.

Wyoming Assisted Living Staffing Requirements

Direct care staff must be sufficient in number to meet the needs of the residents. If there are more than eight residents, one staff person must be on duty and awake at all times. A CNA, LPN, or RN must be on duty at all times. Additional staff are required to maintain order, safety, and cleanliness of the premises; prepare and serve meals; assist the residents with personal needs and recreational activities; and meet the other operational needs of the facility. An administrator or manager must be responsible for the facility 24 hours a day. Administrators must be 21, pass a licensure test, and complete a variety of educational requirements.

Wyoming Assisted Living Medicaid Policy

A Medicaid home and community-based services waiver program exists. Wyoming Alzheimer’s Unit Requirements If an assisted living facility wishes to operate an Alzheimer’s unit, then a license to do so must be obtained. Additionally, staff who work in the unit must have specific training for working with that population. So that ongoing resident evaluations may be performed in order to ensure appropriate, timely interventions, and to supervise PRN medication, a licensed nurse must be on duty on all shifts.
