My mom has been at Pacifica since May. She was living alone and not eating right and it was becoming difficult for her taking care of herself or remember things like she used to. This lead to illnesses and many back to back hospital and long skilled nursing stays. Now her doctor comes to see her there. Medications are dispensed properly leading to better health. It's incredible to see her looking healthy because of all that Pacifica does. I see her I becoming social again and seeing that relaxed look on her face brings me peace of mind. She doesn't worry about cooking, cleaning or laundry and has help showering and other daily needs provided by the wonderful staff there. The meals and snacks like her favorite ICE CREAM are great. She participates in daily activities. THE BEST GIFT I GOT WAS HEARING HER SAY I'M HAPPY HERE AND SHE LIKES IT HERE. She says we're a family here. I needed to hear those words because her happiness means everything to us. Myself as a daughter I can sleep at night knowing she is well cared for. Momma is happy!

Pacifica Senior Living Peoria can improve by hiring a new director and CERTIFIED caregivers. Our mother was in cottage 2 for about 4 months and we have witnessed bruising and open wounds that the staff was unable to explain how it happened nor was it ever documented. They showered our mother and should have noticed the bruising but never documented it, why? ALL bruising, open wounds and falls should be documented but they never documented it, again WHY?? We were allowed to install a camera in our mother's room and once that was installed, we did not see any further bruising on her, however once the camera was installed we started witnessing neglect of our mother. Per her care plan she was to be assisted to the restroom 3-4 times per shift (shifts are 8 hours) but that was not happening. We had to call for them to take her (there were numerous occasions where we would call and either they did not understand us, hung up on us or never answered the phone). But on one occasion, (of course after we called to have our mother taken to the restroom) we witnessed "caregiver" Monica go in and assist her to the restroom, which was out of camera's view, we heard Monica yelling at our mother and that is when I got a call that our mother "pinched herself" leaving an open wound. I got a call because the camera was there, if it was not there, the staff would say "I don't know, it didn't happen on my shift" but what we believed happened is our mother pinched Monica and Monica pinched her back. Our mother has dementia and is unable to control her actions, she does not understand what is happening to her and she does get aggressive but when Pacifica told me they would take her that their "caregivers" know how to approach them was a complete LIE! When we would bring up the abuse and neglect of our mother, Deatra (the director) would always blame our mother. Our mother has dementia so Deatra what is your staff's excuse? If you decide to put your loved one in this facility, I would recommend you installing a camera and if your loved one is wearing long sleeves in the summer have them put a short sleeve shirt on your loved one so you can see if there is any bruising on them. We would visit our mother in the summer and a lot of residents would be wearing long sleeves and wandering outside. The only reason why your loved one would be wearing long sleeves in the hot AZ summer is because Pacifica is wanting to hide any bruising or open wounds. It was very hard for us to accept the fact that we were unable to care for our mother due to the severity of her dementia and we put our trust in Pacifica since they were "trained" in caring for dementia patients but placing her there was a complete mistake. We found our mother a place that takes great care of her and they understand that her behavior is caused from her dementia and do not blame her for her actions, so there are much better places out there for your loved one, unfortunately Pacifica Senior Living Peoria is NOT one of them.
