I have been a Manager of Home Health and Hospice Agencies for over 25 years. We often work closely with Board and Care staff and owners to make sure our mutual client receives outstanding care. I recently visited Golden Moments Care Home and was extremely impressed. First, I was greeted at the door by a friendly staff member who invited me into this wonderful home and offered me water. The home was decorated nicely and smelled as if it were recently cleaned. While waiting for the Administrator I observed both staff and residents playing a board game. Residents and caregivers were having fun, enjoying the social interaction and all were very engaged. Then I observed an incredible interaction that you will not see often in a Board and Care or any facility, a resident who was in a wheelchair, gave a non-verbal sign that he wanted to be moved into another room. The Caregiver bent down on her knees so she was face to face with the resident, she smiled, then quietly and privately conversed with the resident. I could see the resident react very positively to the interaction, then as the caregiver pushed the person towards the room, she stopped, locked the wheelchair, gently helped the resident get out of the wheelchair and the resident then shuffled the length of the hallway. She then got the wheelchair, safely helped him back into the wheelchair and took him into the next room. This interaction demonstrated the staff respected and cared deeply for the wellbeing of the resident. I thought the staff may have been "showing off" to me, but when I met with Denise, the Administrator, I was assured that this was the normal routine and that there was more - nutritious meals, music, dental hygiene checks and more. If you are considering a Board and Care for a loved one, make sure you check with Denise at Golden Moments.
