I was visiting my friend at Genesis (the Seaford Center) assisted living. I have seen some things that upset me in previous visits, like flies in the room while he is eating, but today this was a new low. I passed a lady (very feeble) in a wheel chair in the main lobby and there were cookies laying on the floor around her wheel chair. She looked at me and attempted to raise her hand but then left them on the chair arms. I figured that one of the three support staff that were down the hall would come assist her. Of course they were chatting and apparently weren't paying attention. I continued on to visit with my friend. We talked for about 25-30 minutes before I had to leave. On my way out that same woman was still in the lobby trying to pick up the cookies. I assisted her thinking she wanted to pick them up because she had dropped them. Once I gave them to her she ate them. I felt bad because I didn't realize she wanted them to eat. I looked down the hall and those same three women were still chatting. This is sad and I plan to prepare a list of the things I have seen and provide it to someone at the center. This type of job should be one that you want to do, not just a way to make some money. Unfortunately I see this far too often.
