My 93 year old grandmother was transferred from the hospital after a week long stay to The Gardens for physical therapy. I am very pleased with the progress that has been made thus far. My grandmother is going to be discharged this week and I have never seen her stronger. The physical therapy department deserves praise for that. The nursing staff has been wonderful too. The only downside for me has been some issues with cleanliness. There have been some issues with her personal cleanliness as well as her bathroom. In my opinion they need to hire a few more people in the custodial department and not overwork the people that they have. They are great men and women and I don't think they get enough praise.

My husband Gene had a stay of 32 days before discharge, I can't say anything but goods things about The Gardens from the front desk person to all the CNA's, Nurses, and all the other staff who cared for my husband. But a special shout-out to Harvest/OTA and Becky/PTA and the other therapists he could barely lift his head from bed pillow when admitted when discharged able to get from bed and use his walker (with some assistance) Great place would recommend for anyone.

My mom had gotten sick and almost died in the hospital. Before that she was mobile, lucid, took care of herself. After awakening from a coma, she had to go into rehab to learn to do basic things again, although her mind is still sharp. My niece toured the facility and everything was made to look good. My mother was transferred and the nightmare began. This proud woman sat in urine soaked diapers until someone was good and ready to clean her up, even though she would alert them to her need. She had fallen on the floor, broke her nose, and no one came as she yelled for help. She layed on her face, in a pool of blood and food from her tray that had fallen with her and no one came. It was only after someone was walking past her room and seen her on the floor that someone then came to her aid. The staff wouldn't shower her until we (her family) got on them. Her rehab was a joke. The whole 3 weeks she was there, she made no progress, but after only one week at home, she was walking with the assistance of a walker from one room to another. Medications were not even given on the day of check out and took them all day to call them into the pharmacy. The CNAs and nurses are unfriendly and un willing to help. When I asked how my mother fell, we were told it was her fault. She had suffered a broken nose, but the nurse seemed very uncaring to her obvious pain. Thank God we came in and took over the care of her that day or she would have suffered more with pain. They had even cleaned all of the blood off of her. Our son gently washed off the blood from his grandmother. My sister was told that they would like her to stay another few weeks to try to make some progress on her rehab, but she refused and my mom has really flourished since she came home.

My Wife just spent a little over 3 months at The Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center. 90% of the 2 star rating is due to the CORPORATE policy and procedures the other 10% of the rating is a direct reflection on the 2nd & 3rd shift CNAs and a few other staff members. It doesn't mater what facility a friend or loved one is in you have NO reason to complain UNLESS you are there everyday different times of the day. The Gardens rooms are DRAB and have the feel of an institution. In the beginning the food wasn't fit to be served to even a pig, but by the time she was released and under new management it improved 75% . The old saying to many chiefs and not enough cooks is the case here as there were at the least 4 different staff members who read orders for my wife's endoscopy and colonoscopy and yet couldn't execute the orders correctly. The same appointment she arrived 4 hours BEFORE her actual appointment time ( that was so fun for her to have t to sit around all that time). The bottom line is this you as the friend or spouse or parent must be 100% involved and the CHECK & BALANCE, question and re-question everything and everyone. If I hadn't more would have been screwed up. Do not believe any of Greystones Web sight anything will look good when you put icing on it. so would i recommend the gardens NO unless you plan on spending the time to be there hours on end everyday. The Physical therapy team on the other hand are EXCEPTIONAL and is the prime example that everything else should be modeled after.

I wasn't going to comment on this place because I had the same experience as two others on here, regarding the severe neglect of my mother after she went into their "Rehab" center (Northside). I pulled her out of there two weeks later before she died at the Hospice center the following week. That place still gives me nightmares. In their defense, however, it was just after the Christmas holidays so they were short on staff, and they were transitioning to the new owner, Greystone. This was January of 2015. Now I have an older friend who is a resident there on the Nursing Home side (aka, Southside) and is getting very good care. The nurses and CNAs show genuine concern for her health and welfare. Communication is superb. Family involvement on a daily basis is key, as it is anytime medical care is needed for an older relative. It didn't seem to make a difference with my mom but I am hoping that is no longer the case. Try to be respectful and appreciative, regardless. How many of us would want to work in a nursing home on a daily basis?
