The Mayflower is an incredible community! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely cares about each and every resident. If you're looking for the best senior living community in Winter Park - the Mayflower is it!

I did intense research on where I was going before I had my surgery. I visited and interviewed the different places and called Tallahassee, FL, to make sure everything was spot on. I was at the Mayflower for two weeks and, really, could not find any single thing to complain about. The food was excellent, especially the home-made soups prepared each day, The staff are like one big family and all help to get the job done, if that is what is required. No complaining at all. The physical therapy staff are wonderful. They work seven days a week and each patient is important to them. If I have to go for therapy again, I hope they have room for me. Awesome place. The Mayflower has been a disappointment. My parents entered in independent and are now in assisted. This is a glorified apartment with a dining hall and activities. The place is always quiet and everyone just stays in their apartments. There is no joy in this place. They even have this grand piano in the lobby and it is hardly used. My mom is a young 78 who was born in 1938. She is bored out of her mind. She doesn't want to play bingo and listen to WWII music. She wants to have happy hour, see people, and listen to Rock and Roll music. The only place you can walk to safely is Publix shopping center and CVS. They have a small store that is cute but it is hidden and a long walk to get to, but that is it. I also find the Mayflower to be behind the times in their communication. The nurses have pagers instead of walkie talkies or mobile devises. You have to fax and can't email. And they write the prescriptions by hand and don't have a medical portal. Many times I get voicemail when I call as the receptionists are overloaded and many times curt on the phone as they have too many calls coming in it seems like. I feel like this facility operated like it is 1980. The food and service in the main dining hall is great and was the best part while my parents lived in the independent hall. The dining hall in assisted living is not great and always cold and the servers are not friendly. They do throw amazing parties throughout the year. Open bar and amazing spreads and music. That to me was the only thing they did really well. Hindsight 20/20 I wish we looked at more places before deciding this was the one. They hired a new CEO last year and he seems proactive, but I haven't seen many changes since he has been on board. I think the issue is that I am local and involved in my parents care.. Also I am younger ( 46) with older parents ( 92 and 78) and I guess I expect better digital communication and better customer service. They need to get used to generations like me who are going to expect more for their parents and updated communication in the 21st century.
