Based on my family's experience, I can't recommend the Cottages on Wesleyan to anyone. If your loved one has dementia please read this review. This facility, their management, and staff are not prepared to care for those with Dementia. Most of my concern is with the director, Joy Johnson, and not with the staff that provides care for the residents. I can say nothing positive about Joy, and little positive about her administrative staff. Because of her lousy leadership, the primary problem is with the night staff who are not properly trained, not informed about the needs of the residents, and apparently not compensated sufficiently, nor supervised sufficiently to do the job required for dementia care. The Cottages are new and, on the surface, appear very nice. We found it to be very pretty, and a very convenient place to visit. We told the administration that we really liked the place but that we were concerned that they were not equipped for the care that our Mom needed. We described the care that was required, and the answer Joy supplied was always "no problem, we deal with that every day, or no problem, we have many residents that need that level of care". To make certain, my sister who was our Mom's care giver for the previous 3 years, brought my Mom to the Cottages for a required assessment. When she arrived, Joy told us that she merely needed to meet our Mom and have a chat. Based on this, we decided to move our Mom to the Cottages on December 1. This required that we move Mom, her furniture, and all her belongings from Flowery Branch to Macon. We were so pleased that Mom would be in a great home where we could visit often. However, on the 4th day, the director Joy Johnson called all of us and indicated that our Mom was exhibiting behavior that was inappropriate for the Cottages. Joy said they were not talking about a move but wanted to warn us (this was day 4). The staff shared with us that Joy began gathering data on that day that could be used to evict our Mom. On January 22 our Mom received her eviction notice and we then had 30 days to move. A decision to move your Mom into assisted living is challenging and can be very emotional. We took many months to make our decision to move our Mom to the Cottages, but Joy left us with but 30 days to find a suitable place to relocate our Mom. We were very fortunate that a space was available at Carlyle Place and our Mom is doing very well. Don't make the mistake that we did!!!!

When we were looking for an assisted living apartment for our mom, we visited most of the Macon locations. When we got to The Cottages on Wesleyan, it just seemed to be the right place. Now a year later, we're sure it was the right decision. Our mom has a beautiful apartment and her furniture, pictures, etc. make it feel like home to her. All of the staff are wonderful and very caring. Mom's only complaint is that the food is so good she is afraid she will gain weight. A very nice complaint to have!

My mother has been a resident of The Cottages assisted living for just over a year. She has a very nice, spacious, comfortable apartment. The staff is attentive to her needs including personal care and safety, meals, laundry, and housekeeping. I have been more at ease with her being at The Cottages knowing she is cared for day and night and has immediate access to assistance and help if she needs it.

We love Cottages on Wesleyan Assisted Living. Everyone is so friendly and kind, the food is delicious and the staff are amazing. Very helpful but also respectful of our privacy too.

I visited most every Independent/Asst. Living facility in Macon after originally touring The Cottages on Wesleyan, and for me it was a no brainer. The location is prime and anything you might need (Publix, drug stores and much more) is less than 10-15 minutes away, plus The Shoppes at River Crossing is very close -less than 5 mins for all your shopping, dining, etc. The homes are spacious, all have beautiful shrubbery and flowers of your choosing and landscaping services are there several times a week. Maintenance issues are handled with speed and proficiency. The entire staff is wonderful; very friendly, eager to please and very cooperative. Management is top drawer and works very hard for the senior residents (particularly in Asst. Living) to make their days a little brighter with delicious meals and a variety of activities. If this sounds appealing to you, come visit us. I don't think you will be disappointed.
