My aunt moved into her Habersham House apartment in December. It was a big decision and a challenging one. The staff have made it home for her. She is truly cared for by the gracious, loving staff. Not only have they made her transition smooth, they have been supportive of her as she's coped with losing her husband and even attended his funeral though they did not really know him. The opportunities for leisure activities, exercise, and social times are varied and she looks forward to scheduling her day. She's more active than she's been in a long time and has learned some new dance moves, too. It's a comfort to me to know she sees this as her home and feels so comfortable there. Staff members has been good to me as well. I live 4 hours away but everybody I speak with is quick to encourage me to call anytime to check on her in between my visits. Some have gone above and beyond in sharing pictures and stories with me and keeping me in the loop. I'm grateful.

I can't say enough good things about Haversham House and the director, Shazia Arroyo, who gave me a tour on April 23rd. I was looking for a place for my 93-yr-old cousin Mary. I wasn't sure if Mary needed more intense nursing care than Haversham House provided. Both Shazia and I knew that the chance of Mary meeting Haversham House's criteria was a long shot. Nevertheless, Shazia volunteered to send one of her nurses to the facility where Mary had been staying. Three days later the nurse reported that Mary would not be able to come to Haversham House. Of course I was disappointed, tho not surprised. There are many disappointments in situations like this. The important thing, for me, was that I came away with a profoundly healed feeling because of Shazia's caring and her professional focus on my problem. This was the first time I'd gone though this experience, but I'd seen enough of the elder care world to know that Haversham House -- and Shazia -- are in a class by themselves.

I am so pleased with the care my mother is getting at Habersham House. Having her move into assisted living -- especially with me and my brother not living nearby -- was wrenching, but the staff has been wonderful. Each time I visit there, I leave so reassured that she is in caring and capable hands! Staff members really make an effort to make her feel comfortable and involved. They demonstrate real empathy and understanding, and have gone the extra mile to keep us informed. The apartments themselves are marvelous -- her 2 bedroom is a lovely place. Most importantly, Habersham House doesn't feel like an institution, but a real home. I can't say enough good things about it!

Very little actual assistance given to residents. Beepers are provided to staff who either do not answer calls for help at all or take as long as 10 minutes. Staff congregates in area by the front door to socialize. In the Seasons Unit, Habersham House does not provide adequate staff for those in Alzheimers Care Unit and has been cited for not reporting serious injuries to the Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman or to the family (84 year old patient had large cuts on both biceps and a large amount of bruising with tape makes around each arm and no one could explain what happened). Staff is inexperienced with care and treatment of this type of patient. Cited for 4 different violations.
