Somerford was the best visit ever! The spacious site was full of love, and I was especially impressed with the activities that were underway. The best part was the home made chocolate cookie from their chef. Get this - It was still hot - YUM! Although, it was out of my budget for my mom, I plan to participate in the monthly support sessions available there. Darlene really was a great support for me during a difficult time! she called around to several facilities; as well as provided me with some helpful tools!

Somerford was by far the best place for care of people with memory issues. The entire facility is designed to provide the best quality of life for their residents. The staff all treat the residents with dignity and caring. The staff are all well trained in how to interact with people with memory issues but still treat the guest respectfully. The administrative staff were extremely helpful and willing to help me increase my knowledge of quality care facilities so I was able to make the best choice for my loved one.....I have informed my family if I ever need memory care I want to go to Somerford!

My mother entered Somerford Place last week. After years of agonizing over how to best take care of my mother, I feel confident we made the right choice in choosing Somerford Place. The staff is nothing short of exceptional. They are patient, kind and understanding with the residents. There are four "neighborhoods", and each neighborhood has the same caregivers every day - so the caregivers really get to know the residents. My mother already feels comfortable joking with and relying on the staff. When I visit my mother and see her so relaxed, I could not be happier. Huge thanks to Darlene Sellers, Somerford Place Marketing & Community Relations Director, for all of the time and attention she gave to me and my mother in order to facilitate my mother's move into Somerford Place.

I recently took a tour of Somerford Place with Darlene Sellers, Marketing and Community Relations Director. The Somerford community is truly a community atmosphere. When you walk through the secure doors, you are stepping into a small town from a time gone by. Residents are free to walk throughout without being restrained by locked doors or distracting lights and sounds. It seems that every effort has been made to make the space welcoming and like home for their residents. If someone chooses to walk out a side door into a garden, they are free to take the path which leads them around half the building. They can enjoy a stroll without people chasing them down because the outdoor space is secure even though there is little sign of it to the casual observer. A gathering of souls was on the back patio, enjoying a visit from a therapy dog and her owner who was chatting with the residents. Every staff member we passed was friendly and their interactions with the residents and each other was supportive and encouraging. The mood is high in Somerford Place. And from the looks of the menu and smells coming from the kitchen, the food is great. Their kitchen is staffed by an actual chef who takes pride in the meals served. While no one wants to ever have to face memory loss and cognitive decline such as Alzheimer's and Dementia, Somerford Place and staff seem dedicated to making their stay as comfortable and home-y as possible. Kudos to them!

Linda Jensen 2 months ago On April 6, 2017, I moved my 66-year-old husband, into Somerford Place as his dementia had progressed to the point that it was no longer safe for him or myself to be in the home environment. When I arrived at Somerford place after looking at several facilities I was greeted with a much different and friendly approach from the staff. From the very beginning, the entire staff made me feel like they truly cared and understood the emotional impact this has on a family. Will, the Executive Director, spent a great deal of time with me and my friend, Sandy, who has been with Dick and I for three years as he has progressed through this process. At Somerford Place, I felt like there was someone there to hold my hand all the way through the admission process and on the day we arrived, the welcome my husband received brought tears to my eyes. The entire staff is beyond reproach, Judi, the Programming Director, is so caring and engaging; Maggie, the Chef, welcomes you with open arms and special dietary requests; Christiana, the Resident Services Director, makes herself so available and works with you to get your loved one settled in; and lastly each home takes ownership of their area with such excellent and caring staff like Lesley, in Ellicott Mills. There is a true sense of community for the residents and their families. I highly recommend that you schedule a tour of Somerford Place and find out what an exceptional community it truly is and could be for your loved one.
