I have lived in the independent living section for almost 19 years. I feel safer than if I lived in my own home. There are many activities including Protestant and Catholic congregations, on site medical clinic, bank, market, beauty shops, card and game groups, a pool, an exercise room, two dining rooms, a cafeteria, a crafts room, free scheduled shopping trips, door-to-door transportation to off-campus medical appointments for a reasonable fee, a variety of classes, and beautifully landscaped grounds. The food is excellent, much better than what most retirement facilities offer. Compared to other retirement communities, I feel I am getting a lot more for my money.

I have never had so many problems than I've had here. They have been rude to my mother they have been rude to me on the phone and won't give their name even when you ask for it. I actually had a nurse hang up on me because I kept asking her name. I had told them for 2 weeks that my mom didn't look well. They wouldn't listen to me my mom almost died. They called me at 5 am to tell me she's unresponsive and they sent her to hospital. Well she had a UTI AND WENT SEPTIC UNDER THEIR CARE AND HAD A HEART ATTACK. What does skilled nursing mean? And they will not help you with insurance issues. I have never had a rehab facility tell me to File for an extension because she wasn't strong enough to come home when her legs are 3 times bigger than when she came to the rehab and couldn't pick them up To get into bed. I could go on and on that's just the tip of the iceberg So GOODLUCK people I'll say a prayer for your family members.its just very sad and disheartening

We wish to thank Henry Ford Village for your generosity in hosting the location for our December program "Starting or Jump-Starting a Planned Giving Program." Our members always enjoy attending a program in the Great Lakes Dining room -- which is always so beautifully decorated for the holidays. Lunch was delicious and your staff are all courteous and quite helpful. Lori B. Angel, Executive Director Planned Giving Roundtable of Southeast Michigan

The staff are courteous and responsive to my father's requests. The food is great and there are a lot of activities and clubs to participate in. Residents have been welcoming and friendly.

My mother-in-law has lived in HFV Independent Living for a couple of years now, and has been very happy. After having heart surgery, she has been in HFV Rehab since last week, and it has been TERRIBLE from the very beginning. Her admission started with having to wait 3-1/2 hours for the admitting person to finally show up to admit her. While waiting, and without someone even getting a set of vitals, they sent her off to a dining room for dinner, not knowing if she was even medically stable to be walking around--a cardiac patient. When my husband finally left, he went to the nursing desk and acknowledged that no one had checked her vitals, and he was told they were going down to get them. My MIL stated they never checked them until 5:00 the next morning. There have been a lot of issues with the times they're passing her meds. She has to take a morning pill at least 30 min. prior to breakfast. They have been trying to pass it with her breakfast. This has been an issue daily...the medication should be passed as ordered. When I spoke with my MIL on the phone yesterday, she was eating her breakfast and she hadn't received her medication. The nurses are apathetic and appear to think that their one and only job is to pass the medication, not showing any care or concern for her. They don't even fake it when she has visitors. They have been unfriendly and act bothered when we have asked questions--how are we supposed to know the process for things when she never received a proper orientation to the unit? The most bothersome is that tonight she felt that her heart rate and blood pressure was high, pulled the cord for assistance, and no one came for approx. 20 min. She called 6 times. She yelled out to an employee passing by, who looked at her and heard her, but gnored her. When someone finally came, they did check her vitals and must have passed her night BP meds early, so she did get something. I just don't understand why the response time is that long--she could have fallen or been having a heart attack or stroke. A lot can happen in 20 minutes! I hate that my MIL is there, and will have her go somewhere else if she ever needs rehab again. I am just glad that she has all of her faculties and is aware of her medication regime so she can advocate for herself. If she needed more assistance, she would be neglected. She has one or two dietary issues, and no one from Dietary came to speak with her until she was there 4 days...4 days! They just sent a regular tray without even checking if she was lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegetarian, or ate a Halal diet. I will be dealing with their administration there, but do want to warn people of the poor care at this facility. I would find one with excellent reviews. The only positive thing I can really say is that my MIL has enjoyed the food.
