My grandfather spent his final months at bickford and my grandmother is still in the Mary B's (the dementia care unit). Their staff is AMAZING when my grandfather was on his death bed multiple aids would come over on their breaks and see how he was doing. My grandmother LOVES it there feels right at home. I can't express how much I love these people and how comforted they made us feel if I could give them more then 5 stars I would! This is a REALLY great place!

My grandmother spent her last many years at Bickford. The staff was always wonderful and took great care of her. We couldn't be more grateful for the love they showed her every day.

After finally finishing my two weeks out in Bickford, I could not be happier to not be employed by the Portage branch anymore. Working there for the short amount of three months was uncomfortable, overwhelming and feelings of nothing but disrespect by the management. In order to enjoy working for Bickford you must be a favorite of the hierarchy's. If not, it is clearly shown with no attempt in being concealed. It is also later denied by all management that they do not play the favoritism card. I couldn't help but to laugh. As for working with the schedule, the director told me upon hire that she "can work around my schedule" and is "flexible with my hours" as well as being "understanding of life outside of work" Once growing accustomed to Bickford, I was continuously scheduled against my availability. I would then try to sit down with the director, one on one, to try and discuss the lack of knowledge behind my availability. Whenever she would be willing to communicate about it, I wanted to first proclaim that there was no disconsideration in my understanding that writing a schedule for an entire staff is not easy and that it may not be fair that I am new and asking for a certain schedule. I wanted her to know that I was trying to see the other side before getting to the reasoning behind being mischeduled. I followed along with the fact that my schedule has not changed since hire and it will not change after hire so there should be no reason to go against my availbity. Although it's between those employees and the director, I was not the only employee with issues for being mischeduled. For the times that an employee called in or there was an open shift, the director left it to the med aides to get that shift covered. She also had not intentions on coming in to cover said shift. Her mentality behind it was, "It is not my problem so I will make it some one else's" Over all, working for the Bickford branch was intolerable (considering the short three months) I have never taken the time to write a review (good or bad) for any company ever. I personally do not speak negatively of any former director or company for professional purposes but as for Bickford, I unfortunately have to protest my experience.

I was impressed with Bickford as I visited my grandmother several times. In her last days I can't thank the nurses and staff enough for how well they not only treated my Grandmother, Florence, but how well they treated the family, as we hung around day and night until the end. My grandmother was not a number in their eyes... She was their friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you
