I have worked at Primrose for about 16 months and this is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling positions I have ever held. To try to put my feelings about Primrose into words is impossible. It is something that you would be much better off coming and experiencing for yourselves. The residents are not "my residents," they are like my second family and I'm excited that my son gets to grow up with so many grandmas and grandpas! At least, that is what the residents refer to themselves as whenever he visits! Everyone is always checking in on each other (staff and residents) to ensure that things are going well in each other's lives. Our community is small and homely. Everybody knows most everyone else and they are all friends with each other. Starting a conversation can be deadly because you may be talking for a while! At Primrose of Mankato, we foster friendship, togetherness, laughter, and so much more. There are many activities offered so there is something for everyone! Plus, our food is FANTASTIC! Come for a visit and see what we are all about. I promise you'll love it as much as I do!

My grandparents lived at Primrose for the past 5 years. When they first moved to Primrose, they lived in independent living. We knew they were getting elderly and asked about how transitioning to assisted living would work. Since they were on the first floor, the staff assured us that they could be provided assisted living services in their apartment. A new director came on in the last two years and everything really went downhill. Primrose agreed to provide assisted living services (medication management, shower stand by and reminding for meals) and charged them both for the assisted living services but did not provide the services (except medication management) without constant reminders from the family and sometimes not at all. In addition, the director consistently "encouraged" my grandparents to move from their two bedroom apartment to a one bedroom apartment. When they didn't want to do that, she insisted they needed to move to the assisted living wing to, wait for it, a one bedroom apartment. At this point, the family decided to move them to an assisted living facility in the Twin Cities so we could more closely oversee their care. And then things got worse at Primrose. The director immediately wanted to show their apartment to prospective residents - while my grandparents were sitting in their apartment. This was very confusing and concerning for them. Primrose refused to transfer any of the nursing notes to the new facility. They stated that they didn't legally have to transfer nurse notes and so they weren't going to. This meant that two 90+ year olds had to go for an evaluation visit at their new facility simply because Primrose wouldn't release the nurse notes kept on their behalf. And on the day they moved out, Primrose "forgot" to hand over all the medications the nurses were managing for them (that my grandparents had paid for) meaning we had to drive back to Mankato and wrestle the medications away from them. The people living in the facility are nice but the director has set a tone for the staff of doing the least possible for the most amount of money. I'd go somewhere else unless there is family to keep a *really* close eye on things.

Today we stopped in for a tour and to learn more about what Primrose has to offer. We were very impressed with how things are run, the friendly staff that work there, and the care that is provided to the residents. This is a place that strives to provide quality care and support for their residents and make it an enjoyable place to be.

I have nothing but great things to say about Primrose of Mankato. I have worked at Primrose for 3 1/2 years! The residents are my second family and they all mean so much to me! I have developed the best relationships with the residents and staff! Our residents care is our top priority but we also love to spend time getting to know them in order to care for them even better! I would do anything for the residents I take care of and all of my co-workers would agree with me also!
