at the age of 88 I had to put my mom in a nursing home. It was even twice as difficult because mom was deaf from birth and only communicate through American sign language. On mom's first day there they asked me what they can do to make it easier to communicate with mom besides writing it on paper and pencil all the time. Within a few days they had made up flashcards for mom to use and had ASL video available on some of the computers for the staff. From the kitchen service worker who made sure mom had chocolate ice cream for lunch to the hard-working nurses and CNA's on the third floor they all showed nothing but respect for mom. They also have activities for the residents and they encourage everyone to participate. They always asked mom to come join them even if she didn't want to and I'm sure mom ended up having a good time She passed away unexpectedly after only four months and some of the staff were even at her funeral. I think this says a lot about the Florence Home. Their staff is very caring to their residents . I was there almost on a daily basis and saw them interact with some residents that I probably would have difficulty dealing with. But they did it all with kindness and gentleness and understanding. What amazing people they are.

I would rate 0 stars if I could. Worked here through staffing agency and found out why the entire nursing department is staffing. Would not recommend, very ghetto.

Unscrupulous management: tried to manipulate system and legal process trying to gain full control of our family member's finances (income overage to qualify for Medicaid). Tried to have them declared mentally incompetent. Tried to alienate family by falsely claiming financial abuse and theft. Had medical practitioner provide false diagnosis to justify not discharge. Refused to release her until our lawyer got involved while other, poorer residents of equal capacity were released for discharge to their families. Had to have court proceedings, costing thousands of $$$ in legal services for judge to order them to be compliant. Even the judge could tell she wasn't mentally incapacitated, not to the point of making her a ward of the state. Overworked, underpaid, unappreciated staff spread so thin, residents had to wait long times for assistance, if not all together forgotten or ignored. Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

As a healthcare administrative person - I must give this facility a 5 star review. I don't always have a good experience calling a facility & getting answers. HOWEVER, this facility answered right away & both the front desk lady and Lora were extremely helpful & caring for our mutual patient. Well done!

I cannot recommend Florence Home. They continually work their staff short and management is on a power trip. Sadly, they believe their bad employees who make false accusations against the good employees. There is a lot of backbiting and unprofessionalism going on inside of this facility. I would not recommend working there or leaving your loved one in their care.
