We have been very pleased with Savannah Grace for Rehab. The staff is friendly . It is very clean with everyone getting a private room. The physical and speech therapy is excellent

The Palms of Mt Pleasant is a special gem in the area and it has had such a great reputation forever. The people are wonderful at keeping their residents engaged with activities and outings while they are aging in place. Leslie is always helpful and so well connected with all the residents. Have also worked with Rhonda who is goes above and beyond. Ebony is absolutely fabulous with her residents in the Bridge to Rediscovery. Elizabeth is a great activity director too! Sandra does great activities as well. I love how everyone is so friendly. Fun events for the residents too.

I had the unfortunate opportunity to get firsthand experience with three different senior care facilities in Mt Pleasant in a short 60-day period as my elderly mother deteriorated due to dementia. My first experience was assisted living at the Palms. Admittedly, my Mom was a challenge as I graphically described to every person I encountered at the Palms, prior to entry. The Palms staff conducted a person-to-person meeting with her and accepted her in their assisted living. I called numerous times to discuss a good entry plan to ensure she liked the location and would not try to leave. Never really got an entry plan, but they continued to state "She's so cute, we excel at challenges and we're excited to have her here". On move-in day, there was no entry plan to make her want to stay. Before I got out of the parking lot, they called to tell me "I had a problem". She was considered a "flight risk" and could not stay unless I hired 24-hour care. This was after I explained her demeanor numerous times, moved all her furniture into the apartment, got all the medical, original copies of prescriptions, etc, etc.... in less than 3-hours they realized a mistake was made because she behaved exactly as I described to them (kind of unbelievable, but true)!! Since I really had no choice, I hired 24-hour care for the next 6-days until I could relocate her. So, a mistake was made by the experts at the Palms and myself in admitting her to assisted living. I thought they would have worked with me on a reasonable reimbursement. Unfortunately fairness is not in their business plan. Even though the room was re-rented immediately upon departure (next day); they only reimbursed us a nominal amount for pro-rated rent and "Pocketed" the Community Fee. Which can only be seen as a penalty for being kicked-out. Of course, the Palms could say leaving was our decision, after all the Palms made it clear we were welcome to stay "AS LONG AS" we're willing to pay an additional $3500/week for 24-hr care. To make matters worse, they had very poor communication. I never got a call back from anyone in the nursing staff to update her status. The ONLY person that would ever return my calls was their admissions person. Bottom Line: I can truly state that my mom and our family would have been better off without the Palms. As a family, we were at our "ropes end" when she was placed in the Palms. Instead of getting care for her and relief for the family; our stress level went up every day she was there. Furthermore, The Palms ended up charging ~$930 per night plus 24-hour care costs for a 6-day stay... Final total was almost $10,000 for less than a week stay!!!! Really leaves you feeling used (not exactly the word I was thinking). I realize this is a very negative rating, but it's honest and I tried to be factual. Leaving most of the emotion out. That would have made it MUCH WORSE. FINAL SUMMARY: If you want an expensive "senior storage unit" for your loved one, the Palms is the place for you!! If you want senior care and expertise for your loved one, I would recommend another senior care facility. The end of the saga is better. I was able to move her 6-days later to Mt Pleasant Gardens. They were great, provided a lot of support and even though she left early, they did not "burn" us on the reimbursement like the Palms (I'll provide a separate review for them). As an employee of The Palms of Mount Pleasant and having worked in several other communities, I wanted to express how delighted I am to work with the nicest staff and residents in the Charleston area. The welcome committee at The Palms, helps new residents make new friends quickly and feel right at home. I am so blessed to work at The Palms! I am excited that we are getting ready to kick off our multi-million dollar renovation this summer. I have been working for The Palms for a little over a year and I absolutely love working with the awesome staff and our loving residents. We have the best activities that keep our residents stimulated and keep their minds busy. We get them involved in outings and our holiday functions are over the top! This is the most rewarding job that I have had and I look forward to my future here!
