I was encouraged by one of the female recruiters for Agape, to sign my loved one up for Agape. Within one year my loved one was abused and neglected. Numerous times when I would visit , my loved one was generally unclean, in dirty/ soiled and/or shabby clothes and wet diapers. Also there were "serious" unexplained marks on my loved one's body every so many days or weeks; and was usually in clothes with holes in them and/or in clothes which did not belong to my loved one. The brand new clothes I purchased for my loved one, were missing, misplaced, or most likely stolen. When I questioned Agape about these mishaps I got the run-around; nobody knew anything or they would say they were going to check it out. Once when I stopped in unexpectedly at the group home, during dinner time, the caretaker was "serving piping hot food" - hot steam coming off of it. "Why would you serve a person who is autistic, piping hot food?" I asked her. She replied, 'that my loved one didn't mind!?'. Really?! I was livid. My same loved one was placed in a "locked room, unattended overnight, on nights at a time, due to Agape being understaffed" for their 3rd shift..!? Thankfully, because others who are angels, looked out for my loved one, was also how I found out more about the abuse and neglect. They confirmed what I thought was going on anyway. Therefore, I removed my precious, loved one immediately. We (my family) heard that there were several cases of neglect with Agape regarding their residents, and that they (other families) had similar issues as well. My advice to anyone putting their loved one in any type of institution, group home, or other setting is to diligently check on your loved one periodically, so that you know how they are being treated. I do not recommend this place.
